Anticipation

Anticipation is a sweet thing.  For me the anticipation is a bit of a double edged sword.

I love the anticipation of a vacation (to anywhere), a new baby expected in the family, Christmas, Wednesday night SyFy, and reuniting with a child that you haven't seen for eighteen months.

The anticipation is almost as fun as whatever it is you are anxiously awaiting.

HOWEVER, on the other hand the anticipation of something unpleasant is a killer.  I have a way to deal with what I call negative anticipation.  Say I have to go to the doctor, you know, for that dreaded yearly visit.  I make the appointment, put it on my calender and then totally put it out of my mind because, after all, I'm not even going to keep the appointment, am I?
The day of appointment gets here, I get dressed, get in the car, and go.

The thing is, I always know I am going but for those few brief days or weeks leading up to the event or appointment I can put it completely out of my head and am in total denial.

Anticipation, good or bad, I can handle it!!

  1. Anticipating something unpleasant is, indeed, a killer. Dealing with negative anticipation (or just "doing it," as you say)is certainly the best way to cope.
Nice start to the A-Z Challenge. Hope to see more.
